Frequently Asked Questions

How much freezer space do I need? ▼

A half share (approximately 250 lbs of take-home meat) requires approximately 10-14 cubic feet of freezer space. A standard 14-16 cubic foot chest freezer will hold a half share comfortably with room for other items. If you're unsure, we're happy to help you calculate your needs.

What does "hanging weight" mean? ▼

Hanging weight (also called carcass weight) is the weight of your share after harvest, once the hide, head, and organs are removed - before the final aging, trimming, deboning, and cutting. All of our pricing is based on hanging weight: $5/lb on a full beef, $6/lb on a half beef, and $7/lb on a quarter beef.

As an example, a 1,400 lb live animal yields approximately 840 lbs hanging weight, which becomes approximately 500 lbs of packaged, freezer-ready meat. Every animal is different, so all weights shown on our site are approximate - your final price is calculated from the actual hanging weight of your share, and the balance is due at pickup.

Can I customize my cuts? ▼

Yes! We provide a standard cut sheet, but you can modify it by request after ordering to specify steak thickness, roast sizes, amount of ground beef, and more. Our butcher partner accommodates most reasonable requests.

How long will the meat last in my freezer? ▼

Properly packaged beef maintains peak quality for 12-18 months when kept at 0°F or below. Ground beef is best within 6-9 months. Each package is labeled with the cut name and packaging date so you can track freshness.
